This was a complete redesign of a 1980’s kitchen, that involved design and sourcing choices. We worked along side Josh Teed Cabinetry for the Kitchen Design. They are local cabinetry designers who live in Cobblecreek near Samford. I wanted to achieve a fresh design that worked seemlessly along side this late 1997 build, that spoke with nature and continued to build on the classic style touches that the home had already established. I chose a classic tile that would not date too quickly. And I wanted to add a touch of warmth via the cabinetry and hardware, as it was especially important the kitchen spoke to the warmth of the open plan living room adjacent to it. The cabinetry hardware was sourced locally and was hand crafted by Smith & Gray who are furniture makers based in Samford. I wanted the design to involve as many local trades people to Samford as possible. The kitchen has many deliberate homely touches for example the art, shelf and kitchen valiance. The kitchen predominantly has a modern feel however to strike the right balance between old and new I added some hardware that also gives this space a slight vintage feel. Flooring for the kitchen, lounge and hallway was also sourced to compliment the existing features of the house.
