Did you know that Avocado bathrooms were a popular interior trend that originated in the ’60s and ’70s? For those too young to know that they “were a thing”, it was not uncommon to see bathrooms and the colour green associated en mass. The Avocado-green hue can be best described as light yellowish green and was one of many colours that found its feet during the retro era. Interdisciplinary-creatives, Boundary Space thought it was high time for a comeback and have created a fresh, modern spin on the Avocado bathroom below.
Boundary Space was founded in 2010 by architects Graeme Martinow and Thomas Furse-Roberts. They specialise in commissions in architecture, design, art and graphics. Their approach to design is best articulated by their company name, “Boundary Space”. They believe the most creative endeavours happen in the boundary space between art, design, architecture and sculpture. They see no distinction between interiors and architecture and feel the two disciplines work in sync”.
The Avocado bathroom was designed for a client who worked in the film industry and wanted a unique-looking bathroom. The team at Boundary Space wanted to create a look of refined glamour but not in a clichéd art deco sense. Instead, they workshopped their ideas around;
This out-of-the-box design technique led them to the amazing design pictured.
The palette has been modernised via
The soft grey-coloured walls and joinery retreat & add to the spacious feel of the bathroom whilst allowing the avocado-green features to be the star focus. The palette is calming and the photography and art have been chosen to complement the design and add pops of colour.
I adore the green finishes of the bath, floor and vanities. Which features speak to you the most? Tell me your favourites below.
