THE PINK ZEBRA by RENESA ARCHITECTURE DESIGN INTERIORS STUDIO
Renesa Studios latest commercial project is “The Pink Zebra” for The Feast India Co. The hotel is situated in the old colonial Indian city of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. The Pink Zebra design is a take on the bygone era of British-culture found during its former life when known as the city of Cawnpore.
The brief from the client was that they were wanting a space that had a visual impact. They had initial discussions around British colonial concepts, however, the project found its soul after choosing a monochromatic colour palette and the widely-appreciated zebra-style pattern theme.
The colour pink was chosen because it was a predominant colour that was used throughout the cities under the British Raj.
The clients also shared a love for American film director, producer, actor Wes Anderson’s, highly visual and colourful style combined with his passion for quirkiness. “The love for extreme symmetry and restricted colour palettes can often give a surreal expression. Borrowing from Wes’s spatial ideology, we used certain bizarre elements to break the monotony that came through the black and white zebra stripes dipping themselves in the pink monotone”, explains the team.
Renesa Studio designed the project in a way to overcome the everyday norm of a simple restaurant and bar experience. The play of light, colour and the directional lines is a simple ideology but in reality is highly interactive and visually pleasing to the eye, for its dwellers.
Furthermore, looking striking in its pink-grandeur, The Pink Zebra is clearly a visually-engaging space and it’s highly unimaginable that even the grumpiest of customers would not enjoy its unique interior qualities.
