I feel quite blessed being able to say that we enjoy regular holidays away from our home – it’s simply not something that I will ever take for granted. Like many other middle class families, we plan and save our pennies to make this happen and we enjoy doing it very much. Over the years we’ve stayed in a range of places and locations at varied expense. As a stylist you automatically know if a property has been styled and maintained with love, effort and enthusiasm – truthfully speaking these are the sorts of places that I and many others will want to revisit again and again. Now days, it is common to see many holiday – properties being completely managed by real estate agents and blame is often thrown in their direction when things go wrong. I honestly do not feel this is entirely fare – the main reason is that an agent simply cannot be responsible for every aspect and important detail of running your holiday-business for you.

Definitely make it your business to ensure that your home is cleaned efficiently. Your property should be hygienically cleaned after each booking. It’s important to keep your holiday rental looking fresh – a good stylist will have handful of inexpensive ways to do this and will save you a pocketful of money. They will also have the know- how to source inexpensive yet fabulous artworks, decor items, bed linen and kitchen- earthen ware to have your home looking its fabulous best. If your holiday home has not had any love for a good few years – it will show.

Ensure lounges, beds and pillows are comfortable – be prepared to spend money on decent quality bedding in order to save you money later. Always use waterproof covers on every bed it will keep your furniture and bedding in good condition.

Post regular pictures of your home, wall vignettes, cosy lounge scenes, surrounding attractions, great views and share things that inspire you. Relationship building is a two ways street – therefore allow yourself to be inspired by others on social platforms such as Instagram and Pinterest. Hold competitions and discounts for loyal followers especially during quiet seasons. Build a brand, attract a following and create a online presence for your holiday home.

Connect with other local business in your area via social media – local relationship building is always overlooked and extremely undervalued on both sides. If local businesses see the passion you have for creating a genuinely lovely holiday experience for your customers – you will always be at the forefront of their minds for future recommendations. You can also help support each other by sharing knowledge and upcoming promotions.
NO 6. REPEAT CUSTOMERS ARE THE BEE’S KNEES
Think of ways to get repeat customers through a small discount or maybe an extra night free.
NO 7. FEEDBACK
Always get feedback from each of your bookings – do leave a form to be completed as I think people are less likely to email surveys when they return home. Communication is always knowledge so don’t be afraid; this will always be very useful information.
NO 8. JOURNAL THE LOVE
Start a blog about your journey – tell us stories about your décor and document your favourite treasures. You can tell us about the best walks to do in your area, the best places to eat and must do’s while we are visiting. It will be your journal – evidence of your dedication towards your business.
